Music for Meals: When Melodies Feed Millions

Introduction

Imagine a night where music carries real purpose.

Over 150 million children under five suffer from chronic malnutrition in India, which has a score of 25.8 on the Global Hunger Index. The country is in the “serious” category. India stands at 102 out of 123 countries on the index.

In this moment, over 150 million children younger than five worldwide suffer from chronic deficiency, highlighting the severity of the ongoing problem with food security. A concert can also create awareness and encourage people to support a meaningful cause. In this way, the stage becomes a space where music and purpose come together, leading to real impact beyond the performance.

This is the idea behind the Music for Meals initiative, which is a collaborative effort of Musico India and The Akshaya Patra Foundation. It utilises live music as a catalyst for nourishment, with each ticket purchased helping to provide food for deprived children. This purpose aligns closely with the work of The Akshaya Patra Foundation, a key partner in this initiative. Let’s take a deep dive into how Music for Meals is about to serve millions of kids in India.

About The Akshaya Patra Foundation

Hunger for the longest time has been a major obstacle to education for millions of Indian children. With the simple but profound principle that ‘No child in India should be deprived of education because of hunger’, the Akshaya Patra Foundation has committed itself to this biggest vision for the nation.

Akshaya Patra, being one of India’s leading non-profit organisations, makes sure that their mission is executed flawlessly across the nation. The Foundation is built on the government’s PM POSHAN program, formerly called the Mid-Day Meal Scheme. It provides safe, hygienic, and nutritious meals to schoolchildren, helping them stay healthy and continue their education.

A meaningful collaboration: Musico India × The Akshaya Patra Foundation

Since 2000, the foundation has successfully operated 78 kitchens throughout India, providing daily services to approximately 2.33 million children in over 23,000 schools and Anganwadis. Akshaya Patra has delivered 4 billion meals in total over the years, demonstrating its size and reliability. Its centralised kitchens efficiently prepare large quantities of food while upholding stringent safety and hygienic standards, because of semi-automated procedures.

In addition to school meals, Akshaya Patra offers cooked meals or relief kits during emergencies and manages feeding programs in Anganwadis for younger children. Their branches in each state of India have brought a profound impact through their diverse partnerships with various industries,  giant corporations, and many government establishments.

Inspired by their ambitious goal, Musico India mapped out a concert named “Music for Meals” in collaboration with them as a fundraising effort. The concert’s collaboration with Akshaya Patra guarantees that money from ticket sales and donations goes to kids who require regular

The Akshaya Patra Foundation and Musico India joined up to produce a concert that is more than just music. Every ticket bought directly supports feeding kids, transforming the delight of live music into practical assistance for those in need.

This partnership’s shared goal is simple: to use music’s power to promote children’s nutrition so they can stay healthy and go to school. Musico India hopes to improve the everyday lives of thousands of children in India by providing enough meals through this concert.

By entailing a shared vision of uplifting society, this musical partnership can only hope to bring people one step closer towards humanity, through which a sense of community and belonging is naturally fostered.

How Music Creates Impact

Music has the power to bring people together by creating a shared experience.

Yet, the difference with the largest Ilayaraja concert is that, through experience, we aim for a bigger impact on the lives of the children. Accordingly, we stand as a perfect example where concerts can also act as an enabler for social causes, helping to reach a wide audience and leading them to take a favourable action towards the cause.

Aside from the factor of impact, the “Music for Meals” concert supports Akshaya Patra both financially and non-financially. Funds generated by ticket sales directly go towards providing nutritious meals for the school-going children. Furthermore, the event creates awareness among the children about the importance of school attendance. By simply taking part in the concert, even the audience can help the foundation to enlarge its impact and reach.

Conclusion

Music has the power to connect people and help feed a child.

Accordingly, millions of children in India suffer from hunger, which became the ultimate focus of the concert “Music for Meals”.

This program combines entertainment with a good cause by using live music events to raise money, with each ticket sold going towards feeding impoverished children. By partnering with a renowned non-profit organisation like Akshaya Patra Foundation, the concert is another helping hand towards their long-running mission of removing hunger as a barrier to education. More so, the event also aids in bringing togetherness, inclusivity, and participation in fighting for the cause. Therefore, through this collaboration, both organisations hope to improve children’s health and nutrition while promoting social and community advancement.
